What to expect from the initial consultation
At the initial consultation we will ask the question ‘what’s wrong?’ and you will have the opportunity to discuss with me your difficulties, what you would like to do about them, and the kind of help that I offer. We will discuss expectations and decide whether psychoanalysis is the right approach for you.
The initial consultation also gives us the opportunity to decide if you would like to work with me and if I am able to work with you. It can also provide the opportunity for you to ask me about the specific orientation of my practice and the Lacanian approach to psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic therapy.
I do not charge a fee for this initial consultation.
Beginning the psychoanalytic therapy treatment
If we decide that we wish to work together and that psychoanalysis or psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a possible way forward for you then we will then discuss how you would like to proceed. We will agree on the number of times per week that you would like to start with and discuss the fee.
There is no time limit to the duration of the treatment. It lasts as long as is necessary for you, whether shorter or longer term treatment is required. You can attend between one and five times per week and this frequency may vary throughout the treatment. Although a start can be made with once a week therapeutic sessions, two sessions per week gives the therapy far more momentum to begin with.
My standard fee for one session a week is £50 with negotiable increases for additional sessions in the week. However I offer a ‘sliding scale’, fees for treatment sessions depending upon your personal and financial circumstances, taking into consideration that psychoanalysis is not a ‘quick fix’ and the treatment may well be a lengthy process. I have a few low cost daytime places available for those on low incomes.
